Honey and Cinnamon

A natural cure for many diseases and a formula for many health benefits:

Heart Diseases: It is believed that in the long run, this can help prevent blockages in blood vessels, heart attacks and hypercholesterolemia.

Arthritis: Apply a paste made of the two ingredients on the affected part of the body and massage slowly. Drinking tea with honey and cinnamon daily can also help relieve pain and stiffness in the joints.

Bladder Infections: Mix cinnamon powder and honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink. This can help destroy the bacteria in the urinary system.

Cholesterol: Regular intake of honey in small amount mixed with ground cinnamon lowers bad cholesterol. It lowers blood pressure and clears the clogs in arteries.

Colds: Make a glass of lukewarm honey water mixed with a pinch of cinnamon powder to help boost your immune system during the cold season. It is also helpful in clearing the sinuses.

Indigestion: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on a spoonful of honey taken before food relieves acidity and prevents indigestion.

Longevity: Regularly take tea made with honey and a little cinnamon powder to strengthen your immune system and protect your body from viral and bacterial attacks.

Pimples: Mix honey with cinnamon powder and apply paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash away the next morning.

Obesity: To reduce weight, daily drink a mixture of a teaspoon of honey with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder boiled in water with an empty stomach in the morning about half an hour before breakfast.  When taken together, the solution burns the fat faster.

Bad Breath: Gargle with honey and cinnamon powder mixed in warm water so that breath stays fresh throughout the day.

Treating Gingivitis: Researchers in New Zealand have found Manuka honey effective in fighting against dental plague, itchy gums, infections and bleeding. Apply honey and cinnamon paste to gums every day is an effective treatment for bleeding gums.

Helping Digestion: It cleanses the colon by eliminating the toxins. It helps promote good bacteria in the colon resulting in better digestion.

Bloating, Gas and Acid Reflux: It helps protect the stomach wall by coating it. By cleaning the system of bad bacteria, it helps to heal any infection thereby helping to treat symptoms of bloating, gas and acid reflux.

Mental Alertness: Many people report that honey works great for enhancing memory. When taken with cinnamon, it increases mental alertness and improves memory.

Treating Cancer: It may prove helpful in reducing the chances of cancer by eliminating free radicals.

Boosting Energy: Honey is rich in many minerals and vitamins, while cinnamon contains calcium, iron, vitamin c, vitamin K, manganese and fiber. When combined they make a great immune boosting tonic.  Taking honey and cinnamon tea regularly boosts energy levels, physical strength and mental alertness.

Impotency and Sex Boost: Add one teaspoon of the herb in to 300 ml hot water. Leave it for 15 minutes to cool down. Add one tablespoon of raw, manuka or organic honey. Drink half of it before breakfast and the remaining half before going to bed.

Boosting Immunity System: Keep you immune system strong and diseases will not touch you. Both the ingredients are anti-bacterial and anti-viral making the body strong enough to fight and kill harmful bacteria and viruses. Honey also contains vitamins and minerals providing the body with essential nutrients.

Hearing Loss: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts helps restore hearing.

Diabetes: Up to 1,500 mg of cinnamon supplementation benefits the lipid profile, liver enzymes, insulin resistance, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in diabetics and people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease patients.  Honey has been observed to cause a lower elevation of plasma glucose levels in diabetics compared to dextrose and sucrose. Some suggest that the insulin boosting power of cinnamon can counteract this glucose elevation in honey, which would make your honey/cinnamon mixture a low glycemic index food.

To cure gallbladder infections: Can also be used to treat gallbladder infection –  two teaspoons of cinnamon and a large spoonful of honey added to a cup of boiled water.

All Cinnamon is not the same.  There are two types: Ceylon Cinnamon and Cassian Cinnamon.  Cassian has much higher levels of a compound called Coumarin, which can be toxic to your liver in large prolong doses.  If you are taking Cinnamon daily you should take Ceylon Cinnamon which has low levels of Coumarin and won't damage your liver.

Conclusive evidence suggesting that a honey and cinnamon mixture will produce miraculous results is lacking in the scientific literature, which is why the medical community is quite reluctant to recommend it to their patients.

Cinnamon (cassia) has been shown to be especially beneficial in treating digestive disorders, menstrual discomfort and joint pain because of its high content of cinnamaldehyde (the anti-inflammatory molecular compound that gives cinnamon its flavor and odor).  Cinnamon is a good source of manganese, iron, calcium and fibre even in small doses. Cinnamon also contains vitamin A, and vitamin K, but daily values are not incredibly significant.

Honey is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties, in addition to being full of nutrients such as:

Amino acids
Vitamin C
Riboflavin
Niacin
Vitamin B6
Folate
Calcium
Iron
Magnesium
Phosphorus
Potassium
Zinc

At the end of the day, recent research is just tapping into the powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics of honey and cinnamon. It is most likely that these powerful healing properties have led to “miracle” healings for countless people since the beginning of time.
